Are you looking for a scary good time this October? Here is a run down of some of the area's best Halloween events, from haunted houses to story telling.

It’s that time of year again; when ghosts and goblins go bump in the night, giving us all a good scare. However, which of these ghosts and goblins will you choose to be scared by because there are a lot of options! If you are looking for some great Halloween activity ideas this October then you are in luck as the Hudson Valley is full of spooky activities and events that will make this Halloween season fun and memorable.

Horseman’s Hollow – In its second year, Horseman’s Hollow is the newest offering from Historic Hudson Valley, a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the region’s history and culture. One of their sites, Phillipsburg Manor, is turned into a devilishly haunted landscape that features colonial ghouls at every turn. Each and every one of them will be at the beck and call of the Headless Horseman himself. If you are looking for a truly incredible haunted house experience then this event is definitely for you. For more information about Horseman’s Hollow please go visit their website.

Irving’s Legend – Want to hear the Legend of Sleepy Hollow in Sleepy Hollow? If you are looking for a tamer Headless Horseman experience, then you should consider Irving’s Legend, also put on by Historic Hudson Valley. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is retold by master storyteller Jonathon Kruk. Join him as he tells the story in the very same Old Dutch Church that plays such a prominent role in the tale. This is truly an incredible and unique event. If you get there early, you can explore the adjacent Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Please visit here for additional information.

Haunted Huguenot Street – If you love a good ghost story then you will love this event. Huguenot Street in New Paltz is one of the oldest continuously inhabited streets in the United States. As you can imagine, it has more than its fair share of ghost stories. Historic Huguenot Street will be holding hour-long ghost-themed tours of the famous locale the last weekend of October. They promise evenings full of tales that will haunt and horrify. For more information please go to their website.

The Forest of Fear – Brought to you by the same people who put on the New York Renaissance Fair, The Forest of Fear has been voted one of America’s top ten haunt attractions in years past. If you want to be terrified this Halloween then this is the event for you. It not only has a haunted house, but also a sideshow dubbed The Slaughterhouse, and The Coffin Ride. So take the trip to Tuxedo this October and get scared silly. For more information on The Forest of Fear please go here.

Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Houses – Located in Ulster Park, this venue is routinely ranked among the top ten scariest haunted houses in the United States, even being named the number one such attraction in the Northeast by MTV. It features several haunted houses, each with its own theme. In addition it also has a hayride, corn maze, and concessions stands. For more information please go here.
